Frequently Asked Questions
Clarity and transparency are core to my practice. These answers explain how a typical engagement works and what you can expect when we partner together.
What exactly is a Fractional CTO/CIO?
A Fractional CTO/CIO is an experienced technology leader who works with your company on a part-time or fractional basis. You get C-level strategic guidance and hands-on expertise without the cost and commitment of a full-time executive. It is a strong fit for many startups and SMEs that need serious leadership but are not ready to hire a full-time CTO.
What type of company is the best fit for your services?
My services are ideal for startups, scale-ups, and established businesses that are facing technology challenges related to growth, stability, or cost. This often includes companies looking to modernize their infrastructure, automate their processes, gain control over their cloud spend, ship production AI (LLM / RAG) with real trust and governance, or those in need of strategic direction for their technology roadmap.
Why should I hire a fractional consultant instead of a full-time CTO?
Hiring a full-time CTO is a significant commitment. A fractional engagement provides immediate access to 19+ years of experience at a fraction of the cost. It can effectively bridge a leadership gap, tackle a high-impact problem, or get strategic projects off the ground. My goal is to deliver strong value and empower your existing team.
Where are you based, and how do you work with clients?
I am based in Europe (Bulgaria) and work remotely with clients internationally. Engagements rely on clear communication, sensible overlap for calls and planning, and on-site travel only when a project truly requires it.
How is pricing structured?
There is no one-size-fits-all rate card. After a discovery conversation, I provide a written proposal with clear scope, deliverables, timeline, and fees—whether that is a defined project, an ongoing fractional arrangement, or a focused advisory sprint. You know what you are buying before work begins.
Are you hands-on, or is your work purely strategic?
Both. I believe the most effective technology leadership comes from a deep understanding of both high-level business strategy and the hands-on technical details. I am just as comfortable architecting a multi-year technology roadmap as I am writing Infrastructure as Code or designing a CI/CD pipeline.
How do you measure the success of an engagement?
Success is measured against the specific goals we establish at the beginning of our engagement. Metrics often include a reduction in operational or cloud costs, an increase in deployment frequency, improved system uptime and performance, or the successful delivery of a strategic project. Ultimately, success means your technology is no longer a constraint but a clear accelerator for your business.
What does the engagement process look like?
My process is transparent and collaborative. It starts with a complimentary discovery call once you reach out via the Contact page—we confirm fit and clarify your outcomes. From there, I deliver a detailed proposal outlining scope, deliverables, and timeline. Throughout the engagement, you can expect regular communication and transparent progress reporting.
